<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an ultraviolet-protective agent capable of widely absorbing UVA and UVB, and capable of effectively preventing cell damage caused by the ultraviolet, and onset of erythema caused by the ultraviolet; and further to provide a skin cream by which the cell damage caused by the ultraviolet, and the onset of the erythema caused by the ultraviolet can be effectively prevented. <P>SOLUTION: The ultraviolet-protective agent contains a component extracted from a plant belonging to the genus Michelia of Magnoliaceae as an active ingredient. Preferably, the ultraviolet-protective agent contains a component extracted from a flower of the plant belonging to the genus Michelia of the Magnoliaceae as the active ingredient.
