PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve the use efficiency of light of a polarized light converting optical system used for a lighting optical system. SOLUTION: A split optical system is configured to make partial luminous flux divided by a small lens column among M columns of a 1st lens array incident on a small lens column among N columns of a 2nd lens array by putting a plurality of pieces of partial luminous flux generated by a plurality of small lens columns in the 1st lens array together into less columns and making them incident on the 2nd lens array. The plurality of small lens columns in the 1st lens array are two small lens columns such that respective small lenses in one outside column between the two small lens columns are arranged shifting in position from respective small lenses in one inside column and one small lens column of the 2nd lens array corresponding to the two small lens columns of the 1st lens array have 1st lenses, corresponding to the small lenses of the outside column of the 1st lens array, and 2nd small lenses, corresponding to small lenses of the inside column, arrayed alternately.
