<p>Antibacterial salts of N4,N4'-decamethylene bis aminiquinaldine. M3A. Of formula (I):- Specifically claimed are the diacetate, dilactate, tartrate, diundecylate, disalicylate and dibenzoate. Used as antibacterial and antifungal agents. Solubilities and consequent activity in practice vary. The diacetate is soluble at 1% in water, the dilacetate at 10% and the 1 (+) tartrate at 1%. Useful in tablets, ointments and creams. The undecylenate is alcohol-soluble and may be used in sprays. The minimum inhibitory concentrations of the diacetate against various organisms are:- staph. aureus 1/256,000, Strep. haemolyticus (Gp.A) 1/256,000, Enterococcus 1/120,000, candida sp. 1/32,000, Trichophyton mentagrophytes 1/10,000.</p> |
