1,203,796. Fused electrolyte cell. NORDAVIATION SOC. NATIONALE DE CONSTRUCTIONS AERONAUTIQUES. 28 Sept., 1967 [3 Oct., 1966], No. 44299/67. Heading H1B. A fused-electrolyte, electric cell comprises a gold or gold-plated cathode forming a casing, an alkali-metal or alkaline earth metal anode within the cathode, an electrolyte comprising a eutectic mixture of KC1 and LiCl immobilized in a porous and electrically insulating support and a mixture of electrolyte and a depolarizer held adjacent the cathode by a grating of goldplated metal. The cathode may comprise a deposit of gold, 3, on a copper casing, 1, and cover, 2. The anode, 4, may be of Li, Ca or an alloy of Ca and Li. The electrolyte supports, 10a and 10b, may be of glass fibre. The depolarizer may be ferric sulphate, molybdenum trioxide, tungsten trioxide or a mixture of cupric chloride and calcium chromate and may constitute about 10% of the depolarizer mixture. Grids 8a, 8b may be of gold-plated copper spot welded to the casing. The cell is activated by heating it to the m.p. of the electrolyte. A plurality of cells may be made into a battery. |
