<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus that can connect a controller and an engine even if their charge counter control types are different. <P>SOLUTION: If a control type is not present on the engine, the control type is replaced before setting. If "No Control" is selected in a DOM (domestic) machine, "Overseas Type A" is set on the engine, and if "No Control" is selected in an EXP (overseas) machine, "Domestic Type" is set on the engine.
