PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain an optical disk recording and reproducing apparatus which makes the title of an original retrievable from a play list in reproduction and makes a desired video rapidly displayable. SOLUTION: The relations between the title of the original, a cell and the number of video object search pointers are saved in an information table 81 when reading out the initial from a DVD 10 and the number of the video object search pointers in the play list is acquired by a search pointer number acquiring means 92 during the reproduction of the play list. The cell of the original having the number of the video object search pointers of the same value as the acquired number of the video object search pointers is retrieved by a cell retrieving means 93 based on the information table 81.
