PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To efficiently produce a metal hydroxide carrying gold or platinum, and to efficiently recover gold or platinum from an aqueous solution of gold or platinum ion.

SOLUTION: The metal hydroxide carrying gold or platinum is produced by mixing an aqueous solution of a metal ion with the aqueous solution of gold or platinum ion, co-precipitating the gold or platinum ion with the metal hydroxide and reducing the gold or platinum ion with water. Then, the gold or platinum carried on the metal hydroxide is separated from the metal hydroxide to recover the gold or platinum.
