PURPOSE: An apparatus and a method for straightening metal wire rod are provided to straighten the metal wire rod accurately. CONSTITUTION: The apparatus for straightening metal wire rod comprises a supply unit(20) for supplying a metal wire rod(1) wound on spool(24); a traction means for pulling the metal wire rod from the spool; chamber(51a) for receiving the metal wire rod pulled by the traction means, and treatment means(50) for impressing a power supply to both ends of the metal wire rod received in the chamber; a tension means(80) for controlling tension of the metal wire rod pulled by the traction means; and a gas injection means(100) for creating an inert gas atmosphere by injecting an inert gas into the chamber of the treatment means, wherein the traction means comprises clamp device comprising fixed gripper, operating gripper and air cylinder; an X axis linear motion actuator; and a Y axis linear motion actuator, wherein the tension means(80) comprises tension band(81), spring, and adjusting screw(86), wherein the tension means comprises bracket(82), fixed shaft, fixed disk, operating disk, fixed pad and operating pad, and spring, and wherein the apparatus further comprises a guide unit(90) installed between the supply unit and treatment means to guide the metal wire rod so that the metal wire rod being unwound from the spool is arranged on a transfer path(2).
