PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To safely and rationally dismantle a pressure vessel with respect to a nuclear reactor dismantling method. SOLUTION: When dismantling a nuclear reactor, a lifting mechanism 3 capable of pushing up the whole of the pressure vessel is placed below the pressure vessel 1 while a dismantling mechanism 7 capable of breaking up the pressure vessel is placed in a position facing on a top part of the pressure vessel. After filling up the whole interior of the pressure vessel with a shield material such as mortar, the pressure vessel is pushed up sequentially by the lifting mechanism to sequentially dismantle the pressure vessel together with the shield material by the dismantling mechanism starting from the top part. A wire saw 8 is employed as the dismantling mechanism. The pressure vessel is dismantled into blocks by being cut off lengthwise and crosswise together with the shield material by the wire saw.
