The processor has a dispatch unit (210) to dispatch sub instructions to corresponding functional unit (FU) based on positional information within the very long instruction word (VLIW) instruction .A decoding unit (250) in the dispatch unit decodes the information of the sub-instructions. An operation engines, each having a set FU performs a predetermined operation based on the instructions dispatched. Independent claims are also included for the following: (a) a method for dispatching a VLIW instruction to a VLIW processor (b) a program storage device readable by machine.
