PURPOSE: To provide a redox bipolar cell in a fabric washing machine, which is able to efficiently and effectively wash fabrics without using detergents, fabric softeners, bleach and other chemical additives and reduce the amount of time and required to complete the entire fabric washing process, and a method for using the redox bipolar cell. CONSTITUTION: The redox bipolar cell comprises a housing that includes an inlet aperture for tap water or charged wash water, an outlet aperture for the charged wash water, an inlet opening for the tap water (116) to form an electrolyte, an outlet opening for a hydrogen rich electrolyte (118) and a plurality of electrical connections, a plurality of cathode plates (60,66), ion exchange membranes (58), and anode plates, all of which are disposed within the housing, the cathode and anode plates separated by the membranes, and a cathode spacer plate (62) that is positioned between the cathode plates disposed within the housing, the cathode spacer plate forming an electrolyte chamber (110) between the cathode plates, the cathode spacer plate positioned within the housing to facilitate the tap water or the charged waste water to flow over the anode plates. |
