Pump mechanism, especially for a barrel pump, comprises an ascending pipe (8) with a conveying medium inlet, a conveying medium outlet and a coupling section. A pump shaft (6) is guided in the ascending pipe. A pump base (16) is provided with a valve unit for blocking off the interior of the ascending pipe from a container to be emptied. The valve unit has a valve disk (28) on which at least one ejector pin (36) presses and lifts the valve disk off the valve seat (30) on contact with the pump foot.
