<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To clean a registration roller with the passage of time without giving extreme abrasion to the registration roller even if paper dust adheres to the registration roller. <P>SOLUTION: In this registration roller cleaning device 70, part of a web 73 stretched between a feed roller 75 and a take-up roller 74 in the vicinity of a lower roller 72 of a registration roller 49 is brought into contact with the surface of the lower roller 72 of the registration roller, and the web 73 is taken up for a predetermined amount in the direction of an arrow A by a take-up roller 76, thereby varying the abutting surface of the web 73 against the lower roller 72.
