PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide varnish for forming a liquid crystal alignment layer which is excellent in preservation stability and with which the alignment layer improved in performance of a liquid crystal display element is obtained. SOLUTION: The varnish for forming the liquid crystal alignment layer is formed by making varnish for forming a liquid crystal alignment layer containing a polyamic acid, soluble polyimide, polyamide, polyamideimide or a mixture of two or more polymers out of them and a solvent further contain one or more kinds of T8 type silsesquioxanes with a specified structure, one or more kinds of polymers of the T8 type silsesquioxanes or a mixture of them.
