<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To overcome the problem that a fuel cell is open-circuited at stoppage and gets high-voltage and is degraded, or an oxide or the like sticks fast on the surface of a catalyst and lowers a power-generating voltage. <P>SOLUTION: By purging a fuel electrode side with inert gas, voltage at battery stoppage is let down to realize a long life. Further, by lowering voltage of an electrode at the side of gas containing oxygen when stopped and started up, the oxide or the like is removed from the catalyst surface and the voltage can be recovered from a lowered state. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2005,JPO&NCIPI |
