<p>A control device comprises a driver-prompted pick-up device (62,64) especially with a foot-actuated accelerator pedal outputting an output signal, and a control unit (36) for receiving the output signal from the driver-prompted pick-up device and designed to assign a desired output magnitude to the received control signal, especially a desired drive torque or power. The control unit (36) is designed to automatically detect the different drive states or/and drive situations of the vehicle or/and different operating state of the drive train and to assign the desired output variable, especially the desired drive torque or the desired power, depending on the received output signal or the change in the received output signal, so that a variable assignment takes place between the received output signal and the desired output variable depending on the ascertained drive or operational state or a ascertained drive/travel situation.
