PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an in vitro screening method capable of predicting the central transportation property and receptor-binding capacity of a substance or drug at the same time quantitatively. SOLUTION: This method for measuring the capacity of the substance or drug of passing through cell membrane actually and binding with an intracellular receptor presenting at the inside of the cell membrane by taking the cell membrane of an intact cell as a blood brain barrier based on a presumption that the drug which can pass through the cell membrane, can transport into the inside of the central system. That is, by using human astrocytoma cells, a new method for screening of a sedative anti-histamine agent (a first generation anti-histamine agent) having a high central transporting property and a non-sedative anti-histamine agent (a second generation anti-histamine agent) having a low central transporting property is established, and by examining the sedative/non-sedative property of a new anti-histamine agent in vitro by the method, it is possible to examine the central transporting capacity and receptor-binding capacity of the substance or drug at the same time and also quantitatively.
