The method involves determining a vehicle speed and load level of drive of an infinitely variable transmission in a speed crawling mode, by a determination unit (36). Intermediate control signals (V 1,V 2) are obtained by adjusting the determined values. The intermediate signals are divided into control torque signals of the drive, by a decoupling unit (35). The signals are used to slow down the engine to control the vehicle speed. An independent claim is also included for a device for controlling a drive train with an infinitely variable transmission in speed crawling mode.
