PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide the control of a stepping motor so as not to affect a formed image by lessening the vibration at rotation stoppage when driving/stopping a load with large inertia, such as a rotating developing machine of a color image forming apparatus. SOLUTION: This image forming apparatus reduces vibration in a low-speed region and at stoppage, by switching a current control value at decelerating drive into a current value lower than the drive current value required in a fixed-speed region, within a range where the angular acceleration at deceleration is not lower than a specified value; and moreover in a fixed-voltage control region, when driving the rotating developing machine with a stepping motor and accelerating the stepping motor in fixed-current control.
