摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid crystal display device which has a projection for domain restriction and an alignment control layer and whose manufacturing process can be simpler compared with conventional device, and its manufacturing method. SOLUTION: Liquid crystal 130 to which a polymerizing component is added is charged between a TFT substrate 110 and a counter substrate 120. Then irradiation with ultraviolet rays of high energy density is carried out through a mask 135, and then 2nd irradiation with ultraviolet rays of energy density lower than that of the 1st time is performed without the mask. Consequently, a projection 124 is formed at the part irradiated with the ultraviolet rays of high energy density and alignment control layers 118 and 125 are formed at other parts. In the beginning of the formation of the projection 124, liquid crystal molecules are aligned at right angles to substrate surface. The projection 124 is grown by holding the alignment state, so liquid crystal molecules in the vicinity of the projection 124 are nearly perpendicular to the substrate surface in a voltage unapplied state even after the projection 124 is completed.
