Method for examining the functioning, especially the reaction ability of patient blood vessels by stimulation of vessel contraction or dilation by controlled localized heating or cooling of a body area so that the resultant blood flow can be measured. An independent claim is included for a device for implementation of the inventive method that has a system for application of localized heating to a part of a patient's body by surrounding it with an enclosure through which a heating or cooling gas or liquid flows.
