<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a nonaqueous electrolyte battery having high energy density while securing high safety obtainable by using normal temperature molten salt as a nonaqueous electrolyte. <P>SOLUTION: In this nonaqueous electrolyte battery provided with a positive electrode and a negative electrode, wherein the nonaqueous electrolyte containing a cyclic quaternary ammonium organic substance cation having an aromatic ring comprising a five-membered ring or a six-membered ring, lithium cations, and anions, the negative electrode is actuated at a potential of 1.0V (v.s.
