Method for continuous online measurement and regulation of the thickness of coating material deposited on a workpiece surface in which an optical measurement sensor is provided that works based on a triangulation method, a material layer is deposited on the surface, the deposited layer thickness is measured using the triangulation optical sensor, the thickness is compared with a reference thickness value and the deposited layer thickness is regulated to obtain a design value. An independent claim is made for a device for online material thickness determination and regulation.
