PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical fiber which has large nonlinearity and holes. SOLUTION: The optical fiber is formed of glass 1 and vacancy 2 which extend in the glass along the axis. The glass consists primarily of, in mol % representation based upon oxide, 30 to 75% Bi<SB>2</SB>O<SB>3</SB>, 10 to 60% SiO<SB>2</SB>+B<SB>2</SB>0<SB>3</SB>, 5 to 25% Al<SB>2</SB>O<SB>3</SB>+Ga<SB>2</SB>O<SB>3</SB>+In<SB>2</SB>O<SB>3</SB>, 0 to 20% Zno+BaO, 0 to 15% Li<SB>2</SB>O+Na<SB>2</SB>O+K<SB>2</SB>O, and 0 to 3% CeO<SB>2</SB>, and the refractie index of the galss 1 to light of 1,550 nm in wavelength is≥1.9.
