PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for distilling a halogenated alkylaromatic derivative, especially anα-chloroalkylbenzene derivative hard to be separated by distillation and contained inα-chloroalkylbenzene derivatives as an impurity, without any treatment and only by addition of a minute amount of a metal. SOLUTION: The method for producing the halogenated alkylaromatic derivative(A) involves adding 0.001-10 wt.% of the metal and/or its salt to a mixture comprising the halogenated alkylaromatic derivative(A) of the formula(A)contaminated with one or moreα-halogenated alkylaromatic derivatives of the formula(B) as impurities. Wherein, the formula(A) is R<SP>j</SP>ArY<SP>i</SP>, and the formula(B) is R<SP>j</SP>ArZ<SP>i</SP>. In the formula(A), Ar is an aromatic ring; Y<SP>i</SP>is CH<SB>2</SB>R<SP>i</SP>, R<SP>i</SP>is H or a 1-4C alkyl; and R<SP>j</SP>is H, a halogen atom or a 1-5C alkyl. In the formula(B), Ar is an aromatic ring; Z<SP>i</SP>is CHXR<SP>i</SP>, X is a halogen atom and R<SP>i</SP>is H or a 1-4C alkyl; and R<SP>j</SP>is H, a halogen atom, 1-5C alkyl or 1-5Cα-haloalkyl.
