PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for surface treatment by which air-entrapment in an automobile body does not occur in the case of dipping the automobile body in a surface treatment tank, treatment liquid adhered to the surface of the body can be easily drained off by elevating the body from the tank, there is no fear of strain occurring in the body due to inertial force of the treatment liquid, the tank can downsized to save the installation space, and the amount of the treatment liquid to be used can be reduced. SOLUTION: When the automobile body 4 has arrived over the tank 1, while being lowered and tilted longitudinally at 90°, the body 4 is half dipped in the treatment liquid 2 in the tank 1. In this state, the body is tilted further at 90°upside down so as to be dipped entirely in the tank. The body 4 is undergone the surface treatment in the entirely dipped state. The body 4, under being elevated, is tilted at 90°in the reverse direction from the previous state to be dipped half in the tank.
