<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a telecentric optics which realizes high luminance, high efficiency and a clearly defined edge of the spectrum when a dichroic plane is used in a digital projection system. <P>SOLUTION: The projection apparatus is equipped with: a polychromatic light source; a uniformizing means which uniformizes the light from the polychromatic light source to provide a uniformized illumination region; a base condenser relay lens which magnifies the uniformized illumination region to form a magnified uniformized illumination region and introduces the magnified uniformized illumination region into a dichroic separator; and a projection lens which projects a multicolor image onto a display surface. The dichroic separator provides first, second and third color light modulation channels each having (i) a reducing relay which images the magnified uniformized illumination region and directs the color light in the color light modulation channel, (ii) a spatial light modulator which forms a first image, (iii) and a magnifying relay lens which focuses the magnified real image of the first image onto a dichroic combiner to relay. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2005,JPO&NCIPI |
