The protective guard for the bowl (2) of a bird waterer (1) has a cap (51) and fixings (52) to allow the attachment of the cap to the bowl. The cap covers the float (4) which is connected to the water feed valve, and is slightly spaced from the float. The external dimensions of the cap are less than those of the opening of the bowl.
