PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a media converter for reducing a capacity of a buffer to be used during the transmission/reception of a maintenance frame using the media converter for executing medium conversion between different transmission media, a method for processing a maintenance signal, and a program for processing the maintenance signal. SOLUTION: The media converter 1a on the center side is composed of a first signal converter 7 or the like, which receives the maintenance signal as the response to the request for processing the maintenance signal from a maintenance signal processor 6 and opposing media converters and which executes the conversion of the signal. The maintenance signal processor 6 is provided with a CPU 10, a main storage device 11, and a PLD 20. The PLD 20 is provided with a reception buffer 22. The CPU 10 is provided with a maintenance signal transmission part 18 for transmitting the request for processing the maintenance signal, and a buffer control unit 19 which makes the reception buffer 22 receive a part in the maintenance signal as the response.
