PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a disk array device and a failure recovery control method suitable for the miniaturization of a case body size and the increase of a storage capacity for quickly restoring a normal status even when any drive failure is caused. SOLUTION: This disk array device is constituted of a disk controller 1 connected to a host device and a maintenance terminal 2 and a disk array 5 connected through a disk channel to the disk controller. When any drive failure is caused in the disk array, concerning a plurality of disk drivers on a defective substrate mounted with the defective drive, the disk controller transfers data to an alternative disk drive and after the reorganization of a logical group is completed, the disk controller notifies the fact that the defective substrate can be switched to the maintenance terminal.
