APPARATUS FOR PRINTING IMAGE DERIVED FROM DIGITAL DATA ON PHOTOSENSITIVE MEDIUM

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image having improved resolution and an increased size by utilizing the ability of a light emitting element.

SOLUTION: This apparatus and method print an image from a digital image source on a photosensitive medium 22 by use of one or more two-dimensional light emissive array 51 such as OLED array. Each pixel of the image has a corresponding light emitting element to which variable intensity based on the data for the pixel is allocated. An imaging optical system 58 directs the light from each light-emitting element onto the medium 22. As a result, a monochrome or multi-colored image can be formed by a single exposure.
