PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a fluorine added glass article having a core material having small curvature and small eccentricity even when one having a fine diameter, one formed from a silica material having a low softening temperature or one formed by depositing a large quantity of low bulk density glass soot is used as the core material in the manufacture of the fluorine added glass article such as a fluorine added optical fiber preform by the outside vapor phase deposition method. SOLUTION: In the manufacture of the fluorine added glass article by depositing the glass soot on the periphery of the core material 21 by the outside vapor phase deposition method to obtain a porous glass preform 2 and adding fluorine into a glass soot layer 22 of the porous glass preform 2 to make transparent, fluorine is added under a condition controlled to 1,100≤x≤1,200 and satisfying a relation, -0.12x+204≤y≤-0.13x+228, when the fluorine addition temperature is expressed by (x) (°C) and the fluorine addition time is expressed by (y) (min).
