PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an information recorder which efficiently records caption information on a recording medium. SOLUTION: This information recorder is provided with a means (26) for separating main video data and subvideo data from stream data, a means (19 and 51) for obtaining character data superimposed on the main video data, a first table (19 and 52) for language codes of the subvideo data, a second table (19 and 52) for language codes of the extracted character data, a comparing means (35) for comparing the language of the subvideo data with that of the obtained character data by using the first and second tables, and a recording means (24) for recording the subvideo data and the extracted character data on the recording medium when the comparing means determines that languages are different.
