PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing ultrafine semiconductor particles in which the ultrafine semiconductor particles synthesized in a solvent containing water, particularly composed mainly of water, is separated as a powder which can be redispersed safely at a low cost without impairing characteristics thereof. SOLUTION: This method for producing the ultrafine semiconductor particles comprises synthesizing the ultrafine semiconductor particles in the solvent containing water to prepare a suspension containing the ultrafine semiconductor particles, freezing the suspension, and drying the frozen suspension in vacuo to separate the ultrafine semiconductor particles from the suspension.
