PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a high variable power ratio zoom lens capable of moving an image by moving a part of lenses in a direction perpendicular to an optical axis. SOLUTION: The zoom lens has a 1st positive lens group G1, a 2nd negative lens group G2, a 3rd positive lens group G3 and a 4th positive lens group G4 from an object side. In the case of varying the position of the lens from a wide angle end to a telephoto end, at least the 1st and the 4th lens groups G1 and G4 are moved to the object side so that space between the 1st and the 2nd lens groups G1 and G2 is increased, space between the 2nd and the 3rd lens groups G2 and G3 is decreased and space between the 3rd and the 4th lens groups G3 and G4 is decreased. The 3rd lens group G3 has a 1st auxiliary lens group L31, a 2nd auxiliary lens group L32, and a 3rd auxiliary lens group L33 from the object side. By moving the 2nd auxiliary lens group L32 in the direction nearly perpendicular to the optical axis, the image is moved, and an aperture diaphragm S is arranged near or in the 3rd lens group G3.
