The invention provides a protein crystal of the protein type II isopentenyl diphosphate:dimethylallyl diphosphate isomerase. The invention further provides the crystal structure of said protein in the absence and in the presence of flavin mononucleotide. The invention also provides methods of identifying potential inhibitors of said protein. Said potential inhibitors may be used as antibiotics for combatting pathogenic microorganisms having said protein.
