Measurement data and positional information are generated for each sleep using a measuring device and a position determining device on a rail-mounted vehicle and this information is sent to a computer which determines whether the sleeper has been subjected to material damage that reduces its load capacity. The computer stores this damage information so that is is linked the position of the sleeper.
