A method of publishing information on the Internet includes the step of a publishing service provider establishing an Internet publishing site. A person who wishes to publish information accesses the Internet publishing site and registers as a client. During the registration process, the client chooses: (a) to provide details of the client's existing Internet site; and/or (b) to request the publishing service provided to provide an Internet site for the client; or (c) not to utilize a "traditional" Internet web site. The information to be published is transferred from the client to the Internet publishing site. Software on the Internet publishing site automatically converts the information into a content item in a format suitable for placing on an Internet site, automatically allocates a URL (uniform resource locater) to the content item, and automatically enables the content item to be visible on the Internet.
