PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a disk cartridge which can immediately inform a user of incompatibility when a disk cartridge not compatible with a disk drive unit is inserted. SOLUTION: In the disk cartridge 1, a concave and convex pattern 11 is provided at the upper end part 10 of the case 2 of the cartridge. The concave and convex pattern 11 is an identification mark for identifying a recording method to the disk, and the disk drive unit reads the concave and convex pattern 11 and determines whether the disk cartridge thus inserted is compatible with the disk drive unit when the disk cartridge is inserted.
