Device for cutting an edge of a fibrous layer

A papermaking machine makes two layers of paper that are subsequently brought together in a single web. The machine has a first belt (22) transporting a first layer of fibres, and a second belt (12) feeding a second layer of fibres. Before the two layers are brought together, one or both of the fibre webs run through a margin trimming station (48). The margin trimming station has an air jet or water jet knife. The air jet knife is operated with compressed air at between 1.5 and 5 bar. A water jet knife operates at between 5 and 30 bar. The position at which the jet knife cutter is presented is adjustable in a transverse range of 5 to 500 mm. The two webs are joined by a couch roll.
