<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus in which jamming of a recording medium can be surely detected and a jamming detection method. <P>SOLUTION: Two sensors 84 and 85 detecting the presence of sheet S are provided at the rear part of a fixing unit 9 on a sheet carrying path F and the presence of jamming is decided on the basis of their output signals. For example, when the output of the post fixing sensor 84 is varied to a level L indicating the presence of the sheet after the lapse of a fixed time t1 from the start of the driving of a gate roll and when the output of the post fixing sensor 84 is varied to a level H indicating no presence of the sheet while the output of the pre-ejection sensor 85 provided at the rear part of the sensor 84 is not varied to the L level, jamming is decided. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO&NCIPI |
