PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method of manufacturing an article permitting the reduction of a manufacturing cost and the convenient high-quality marking of an article made of a brittle material, a forming die, a lens and a marking device capable of performing the method. SOLUTION: A marked article having a desired appearance and smooth irregularities can be obtained without cracking and breaking a forming die 1 during marking by bringing a rotating member 32 to be marked in contact with the die 1 and shifting a contact position relatively according to a target mark. A marked article having a desired appearance and smooth irregularities can be also obtained by adding an abrasive between the member 32 and the die 1.
