<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enable compression with high compression efficiency while making expansion relatively easy. <P>SOLUTION: When waveform data are compressed by frames, a covariance matrix of (p)th order is found from waveform data included in a frame to be compressed and waveform data of (p) samples right before the frame, and a linear prediction coefficient of (p)th order is found according to the found covariance matrix and used to perform the compression. At this time, if the covariance matrix is not regular or when the linear prediction coefficient is not within a specified range, the order (p) is varied to an order which is one less, and a covariance matrix of the new order is found again and used to find a linear prediction coefficient of the order. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO&NCIPI |
