PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To perform recognition processing while presenting a recognizing target area to a user in a small device. SOLUTION: An image area specification means 5 generates display setting information of a specified image area by performing image area specification processing. An image display controller 18 displays a picked up image on a display means 2. In this case, a frame indicating the image area is simultaneously displayed based on the generated display setting information. Thus, the recognizing target area is superimposed on the picked up image and presented to the user by the frame. A recognition transition propriety determination means 6 discriminates propriety of transition of a character string specified by the frame to recognition processing and a recognition result determination means 8 determines a recognition result by a recognition means 7, obtains the optimum recognition candidate and displays it on the display means 2. Consequently, an erroneous recognition result due to blurring, etc. can be eliminated, and the exact character string strong against the blurring can easily be determined.
