PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an electrolyte for an electrochemical device that can obtain a 1-position substituted imidazole efficiently and at a low cost and whose withstand voltage is improved. SOLUTION: The electrolyte is obtained by allowing anα-dicarbonyl compound, or its acetals or its ketals (a1), an ammonia or its carbonate (a2), aldehydes (a3), and primary amines (a4) to be reacted with each other, and it is made of imidazolium salt (A) that is obtained by quaternizing and anion-exchanging a 1-position substituted imidazole (A1) represented by a formula (1) and is represented by a formula (2).
