<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a pointing device by which operation is done with operation feeling close to that of a mouse. <P>SOLUTION: The casing 1 of a computer 2 is provided with a position detection section 20. A movable section 30 freely moved on the position detection section 20 is prepared. The movable section 30 is held with one hand and is moved almost in parallel with the surface of the position detection section 20. Now, a light receiving section 22 receives light generated from a light emitting section 21 and reflected at the movable section 30 to detect the position of the movable section 30. In accordance with the result of the detection, X-Y coordinate data are inputted to the computer 2.
