PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image processing apparatus capable of performing interpolation processing while remaining edges to some extent. SOLUTION: As a concerned pixel, one G pixel is selected and pixel data of G pixels which are four peripheral pixels adjacent to the concerned pixel are read (step 101). A protrusion quantity that is a difference between the pixel data of the concerned pixel and the pixel data of the four peripheral pixels is found and it is judged whether the protrusion quantity is greater than a predetermined value (64, for example) (step 102). When the protrusion quantity is greater than the predetermined value, it is judged that the concerned pixel and the peripheral pixels include edges (portions each in which a change amount of a luminance value is great) and relatively weak low-pass filtering is applied (step 103). When the protrusion quantity is equal to or less than the predetermined value, it is judged that the concerned pixel and the peripheral pixels do not include edges and relatively strong low-pass filtering is applied (step 104).
