PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an electric compressor capable of cooling a motor without affecting motor characteristics. SOLUTION: The electric compressor and a motor for driving the compressor are stored in a casing. A stator 11 of the motor is fixed inside a center case 3 and arranged so as to be brought into contact with an inner periphery of a front case 25. A rotor 16 connected to a rotating shaft of the compressor is rotatably supported inside the stator. A suction port for refrigerant is provided on the opposite side of the compressor with the motor put between them. Depressions 26a, 26b extending outward from both end faces of the stator along its axial direction are provided on an inner side wall of a portion corresponding to the motor of the center case 3 and the front case 5 to form a refrigerant passage for connecting the suction port with the compressor. The refrigerant passage can be formed without any notched portion provided on the stator, thus cooling the motor with the refrigerant and maintaining good motor characteristics by restraining iron loss.
