Device for determining or tracking the position of a bone comprises a holder (10) fixed to the bone using a gripping mechanism (20, 30) surrounding the bone on two opposite sides and a third side. The gripping mechanism produces a forced movement in the direction of the third side after surrounding the bone on the two opposite sides. An Independent claim is also included for a system for determining or tracking the position of a bone using the above device. Preferred Features: The gripping mechanism has a tilting mechanism with two tilting gripping elements (21, 22) for surrounding the bone on the two opposite sides and a third element (23) which is fixed or moves along a longitudinal axis of the device. The gripping mechanism has an operating device (30) for the tilting mechanism.
