PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an electric compressor capable of surely cooling an electric motor, preventing excessive temperature rise of an intake refrigerant, and not deteriorating smoothness of an action of a compressor mechanism. SOLUTION: This electric compressor 10 is equipped with a compressor mechanism housing 13 between a rear housing 11 and a motor housing 12. The intake refrigerant from an external refrigerant circuit 20 is introduced to a motor chamber 122, and a motor cooling passage 31 is formed in a manner that the intake refrigerant introduced to the motor chamber 122 is routed through a compressor mechanism chamber 134, or isolated from the compressor mechanism chamber 134, and introduced to an intake chamber 111. Thereby, the intake refrigerant from the external refrigerant circuit 20 once flows to the motor chamber 122 through the motor cooling passage 31, and the electric motor 21 installed to the motor chamber 122 is cooled by the intake refrigerant. The intake refrigerant cooling the electric motor 121 is routed through the compressor mechanism chamber 134, or isolated from the compressor mechanism chamber 134, and returned to the intake chamber 111.
